Mi’kmaq / English

A little while ago I started to learn Mi'kmaq, one of the languages that are spoken in Canada.

I believe that languages can be an fundamental part of a culture - and a wide diversity of cultures is important for a positive development of humankind.

The number of children learning the Mi'kmaq language has been in decline during the last decades. So I like to try my best to encourage people to learn this beautiful language and started to create some hopefully helpful materials.

There are many Mi'kmaq dialects and even several Mi'kmaq orthographies - and I just started to learn and try to get everything as correct as I can. I hope you enjoy it!

“n” is a Mi'kmaq prefix that means "my."
Body parts have inalienable possession in Mi'kmaq, you must use a possessive prefix with one of those words.
In some Mi'kmaq dialects it is ungrammatical, or at least very strange, to possess an animal in any form.
